Tribute to Valoelle

Our ninth child, the heroine of our birth documentary, now returned to the Kingdom of Angels.

From June 2006 to April 2009, we spent nearly three years in Australia, where Amsya, our eighth child, was born in August 2007. Having become English speakers, we discovered a website called “Orgasmic Birth.” We then watched several DVDs we had purchased from that site.

These DVDs were interesting, to be sure, but we found them to contain far more theoretical discourse than authentic testimonials. A few months later, in Bolivia, while I was pregnant with our ninth child, we came up with the idea of making our own DVD documenting the birth of the baby to come. At the time, we had just arrived in Bolivia, where we were living in a campsite with our eight young children, on a plot of land we had just purchased… Since we couldn’t film the birth on-site—where we didn’t yet have electricity—we made arrangements to film the birth in a hotel room we knew in the city of Santa Cruz. So that is what we did.

Valoelle was born in the intimacy of our marriage and under the gaze of the cameras three days after Christmas 2009. She grew and brought us joy with her smiles and laughter.

Then she passed away suddenly at the age of 99 days, three days after Good Friday… Like Christ, Valoelle came to teach us unconditional love, that extraordinary energy that even death cannot destroy…

At the moment Valoelle left us, I was still breastfeeding her full-time. I cared for her full-time, in addition to her many brothers and sisters, and her passing caused me a grief beyond what words can express… On the day we had to lay her little cold body to rest, I would have preferred to bury my own body, so illogical did it seem to me that one of my children should leave this world before me…

Beyond the tears, we were left with the memories and the many photos and videos we had taken during her all-too-short life. Courageously and patiently, we nevertheless continued the work of editing the DVD of her birth, managing to release it several months later. Each of our children is, for us, linked to a milestone in our lives, and with Valoelle, even before her passing, we felt she was inviting us to SHARE HER EXPERIENCE…

Well done Valoelle! You are the heroine of this documentary, which shows all interested future parents how to offer their babies a birth with all the respect and love they deserve. Mission accomplished, my dear baby! …and here you are, already on your way to the Afterlife, where we will join you once we, in turn, have fulfilled the mission for which we came to this Earth… Farewell, my baby, and thank you for everything you have given us… I love you beyond this seemingly painful separation…

Musical tribute by my brother Patrick

Here I am sharing a letter and a poem that I wrote shortly after Valoelle’s passing.

Letter to Valoelle

Valoelle, my dear little baby,

Your soul has left this cute little body, which was able to take shape and grow thanks to the energy of my body during these nine months of pregnancy and three months of complete breastfeeding.

My tear-filled eyes are united with my engorged, aching breasts, weeping abundantly for the milk that your inert, lifeless little body no longer needs.

This brutal weaning, which will leave the milk leaking out and wetting my clothes for almost two weeks after your departure, is a painful reminder of how closely your fragile life still depended on mine.

Accustomed to dividing my days between your feeds, your care and your sleep slots, I feel the emptiness of your absence. I still have the reflex to check if you’re sleeping well, if you need your next feed, if you want to go for a walk… My empty arms feel the lack of your presence and warmth by my side.

Thank you for coming to spend these few months with us. Like those magnificent Amazonian butterflies that flutter by us daily, you delighted us with the beauty of your soul and the color of your eyes. Then your spirit took to the skies….

Thank you for your calm and serenity that made you such a quiet, peaceful baby. Thank you for all those smiles that filled us with your joie de vivre every day. Thank you for showing us through your presence that what really matters in our lives is the vibration of love that dwells in our hearts. Thank you for remaining close to us in spirit, beyond your absence from our field of existence and consciousness.

Farewell my darling child.

Te amo mi amor.
