¡Viva la Vida! center
To regenerate your health by living in harmony with Nature

Natural health retreats in the heart of the Andes
A sanctuary of Nature nestled in the Bolivian Andes
A magnificent mountain setting, conducive to regeneration
Nestled at 1,650 meters above sea level in the Paredones valley, at the gates of Amboró National Park, the ¡Viva la Vida! Center sits in a place favorable to the regeneration of your health, down to every cell in your body.
The calm and quiet, a blessing for the nervous system
The ¡Viva la Vida! Center sits beyond the reach of the usual trappings of city life: no corner store, no restaurant delivery, no pharmacy just a stone’s throw away. Here, no engine roars, no siren wails, no notification buzzes endlessly in a pocket. Far from the artificial noise of the modern world, you’re invited to tune back in to Nature, teeming with life: birdsong at daybreak, the song of cicadas, wind rustling through the canopy, the murmur of the river below.
This retreat from modern life is a true gift to your body. Freed from the constant demands of the modern world — noise pollution, electromagnetic waves, perpetual urgency — your body gradually regains the ability to hear its own signals. It’s often in this rediscovered silence that you realize just how much you had, without knowing it, learned to stop listening to yourself.
This deep calm acts directly on your nervous system. It gives your vagus nerve and your parasympathetic system the space they need to take back control from the state of permanent alert that modern stress keeps the body in (see the dedicated article: Activating the vagus nerve to offset stress). Day after day, your body uses this respite to release accumulated tension and recharge — like a battery slowly but surely discharging harmful tension and refilling with energy.
An altitude that gently strengthens
At 1,650 meters, the air naturally holds a little less oxygen than at sea level. Your body responds to this slight difference with gradual adaptation: even at this moderate altitude, several studies show a gentle stimulation of red blood cell production — a hormetic mechanism that, over time, tends to strengthen the cardiovascular system. Far from being a shock to the body, this altitude offers a natural, gentle invitation for your body to push itself just slightly, day after day.
A generous sun, a source of light and vitality
Here, the sun shows up almost every day: pleasant and warming around midday in winter, when the days are shorter and cooler, and from early morning onward in summer.
This daily exposure lets you naturally synthesize and stock up on vitamin D, so valuable to the body, since it’s essential to its proper functioning (metabolism, bone health, immune defenses, muscle function) (see the dedicated article: Sunlight: a true nutrient).
Being close to the equator (18º south latitude) also gives daylight a remarkable stability throughout the year: day length runs from 10 hours 50 minutes around the winter solstice (in June) to 13 hours 30 minutes at the summer solstice (in December) — a gap of barely 2 hours 40 minutes across the whole year, far more stable than in temperate zones farther from the equator, where that gap often tops eight hours. In practice, daylight runs from 6:40 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in winter, and from 5:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. in summer. Here, you wake up and go to bed with the sun. And since Bolivia never changes its clocks, they follow the sun’s actual path all year round.
A temperate climate, made for life outdoors
The valley’s subtropical climate stays moderate all year round, with a gentle steadiness that carries through every season. Unlike the nearby Amazon lowlands, swept by hot, humid winds, this valley benefits from the freshness of the surazos — dry, cool winds that sweep up from the south of the continent and thread their way through the mountains all year long. This particular breeze lets you breathe deeply, filling your lungs with invigorating air to your heart’s content, charged with an energy you feel from your very first steps on the land.
This climate makes life outdoors possible almost year-round — you might just need an extra layer when the cold or the rain rolls in. Living outside isn’t an occasional treat reserved for sunny days here, but a near-permanent possibility, right at your fingertips. The rainy season, generous in this subtropical region, especially in summer, keeps the vegetation lush and green all year. The water that supplies the Center, whether from rain or the nearby river, is largely free of urban or industrial pollutants (see the dedicated article: Hydration and living water as a foundation for vitality).
A forest that wraps around and protects
The Center is surrounded by native forest along the Andean foothills — dense, alive, and rich in energy. This forest presence directly shapes the local climate. In winter, the temperature at the Center runs about five degrees milder, on average, than in Samaipata, the neighboring village — even though it sits at the same altitude and just five kilometers away as the crow flies. In practical terms, even at night, the thermometer almost never drops below 4ºC (39ºF). In summer, the generous shade of the tall trees tempers the heat. The forest works like an immense natural regulator — a living air conditioner that no technology could match for gentleness.
Beyond its role in shaping the climate, this forest carries a particular energy, dense and ancient, that you feel physically from your very first steps on the land. That sensation has a concrete scientific explanation: forest air, like the air around a river or after rainfall, is naturally rich in negative ions — particles that several studies have linked to serotonin regulation, sleep quality, and an overall sense of well-being. It’s this energy, both measurable and deeply felt, that creates this profound, almost tangible calm, so conducive to slowing down. Your nervous system finds itself, as a result, in a context favorable to rebalancing (see the dedicated article: The many benefits of a life close to Nature).

Nine hectares to discover, step by step
The ¡Viva la Vida! Center spans nine hectares (about 22 acres) of mountainside — a territory large enough to lose yourself in a little, intimate enough that you’ll never feel like a stranger. It’s on this land that the Fertile Gardens of the Pachamama have taken root, year after year: a permaculture space designed as a true food forest, where fruit trees, vegetables, and aromatic and medicinal plants grow beneath the canopy of tall native forest trees, in living soil, in full respect of the laws of life. The complete layout of these Gardens is presented in detail in the section dedicated to the Fertile Gardens of Pachamama. Some of the food you cook at the Center is grown right there on site — fresh, wholesome, alive, and rich in vitamins and minerals (see the dedicated article: Food designed to nourish and detoxify). Walking barefoot between the rows, feeling the living soil beneath your feet, taking part in growing your own food, picking a ripe fruit straight from the branch: this is what these gardens offer you, day after day, whenever you take the time to stop and notice. This simple act awakens an instinctive joy — the joy of picking, with your own hands, what you’re about to eat, a precious feeling that can bring you spontaneously back in touch with your inner child.
The river that runs along the edge of the property, just below, completes the picture. Its clear water, shaded banks, and the steady sound of its current offer another anchor point — whether you’re seeking coolness, direct contact with the element of water, or simply a moment of quiet contemplation.
Nights made for rest and regeneration
At the ¡Viva la Vida! Center, the rooms are deliberately open to the outdoors: some walls, replaced by mosquito netting, let the night air in while keeping insects out. Falling asleep this way — lulled by the sounds of the forest, in air that’s constantly refreshed and never grows heavy — changes the quality of your sleep profoundly, without any effort at all. The calm of the place, combined with the forest air’s richness in negative ions, creates ground especially favorable to restorative sleep (see the dedicated article: Sleep: the living world’s nightly regeneration). This nighttime setting alone plays a full part in the deep detoxification and rest that many residents come here seeking.
A place built on a human scale
The ¡Viva la Vida! Center is still in its early stages and currently runs without any staff. That keeps the place at a human, family scale, preserving a rare authenticity along with accessible prices. You receive a fully personalized welcome, in a setting shaped with care, year after year, by the very same hands that will continue to accompany you throughout your stay.
This is the essence of the ¡Viva la Vida! Center: a place where seclusion becomes an ally, where the forest protects and regenerates, where the earth nourishes, and where every detail is designed with you in mind.
