Autonomous Natural Childbirth as a couple

Reducing the risk of hemorrhage during childbirth

Strengthening the uterus and respecting its healing process to preserve precious blood energy

Statistical and official data reveal that postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal mortality. Therefore, it is essential to fully understand the phenomenon of blood loss during childbirth. In the minutes, hours, and days following childbirth, the mother loses blood. Indeed, after nine months without menstruation, childbirth triggers significant bleeding, particularly from the area where the placenta detaches from the uterine wall, to which it was connected by numerous blood vessels. However, if one acts with awareness and allows the healing process to unfold patiently, it is possible to significantly minimize this blood loss at the time of delivery and in the days following birth. Having taken the risks of postpartum hemorrhage seriously, I took action on two fronts:

1- During Pregnancy

The healthier the uterus, the lower the risk of hemorrhage. During pregnancy, I did everything in my power to detoxify my body (see the article How to limit labor pains? on this subject).

In addition, whenever I had it available, I regularly drank horsetail tea to strengthen my uterus. Horsetail (Equisetum) is a phanerogam plant that reproduces via spores, much like a fern. This plant is composed, much like bamboo, of small hollow segments joined together by solid nodes. These segments are relatively rigid due to their high silica content. Thus, horsetail tea is rich in silica, which helps improve the structure of the body’s tissues. This explains the plant’s anti-hemorrhagic properties. Horsetail strengthens the structure of uterine cells, thereby significantly reducing blood loss after childbirth. Furthermore, horsetail has the ability to absorb many nutrients and minerals from the soil. This is why horsetail is rich in calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and magnesium. It is a powerful remineralizing agent for pregnant women or those who have just given birth.

This preparation during pregnancy constitutes the first step. The second takes place at the crucial moment of delivery.

2- At the Time of Delivery

After the baby is born, the placenta retracts and detaches itself from the uterine wall, much like a leaf from a deciduous tree that falls on its own in the fall. If it has not completely detached and the umbilical cord is pulled to remove it more quickly, there is a risk of causing an unnecessary tear, which could lead to hemorrhage. Therefore, it is essential to wait for the placenta to detach completely, a process that, in our experience, can take between 30 and 120 minutes after the baby is born. The placenta then forms a compact, mobile mass that can be felt in the lower abdomen, giving the sensation of having a tennis ball in the uterus. Therefore, patience is key, and it is essential to wait until the placenta has completely detached before attempting to expel it.

I discuss this in more detail in the article The concept of time in physiological childbirth, which I invite you to read as a supplement to this article. In it, I share stories of women whose afterbirth occurred 14 hours, or even 24 hours, after the birth…

By following these two approaches, I’ve never had any issues with postpartum hemorrhage. In fact, I even noticed that my blood loss was minimal both during delivery and in the days that followed. I lost very little blood, and only for 10 to 15 days after giving birth. This allowed me to conserve my precious vital energy, which was necessary to handle what came next—including breastfeeding and caring for the newborn, not to mention, of course, taking care of the rest of the family.

The expression « Lights for a New World » is explained on the following page :

Vert Pour Les Titres

What I call the New World is an ideal world in which we dream of living, which means a better world, a more beautiful world, a fairer world, a more harmonious world, a more pleasant world to live in and, ultimately, a happier world. A world free of fear and ego games. A world governed by the forces of authentic, unconditional and universal love. A world where peace, joy, tolerance and benevolence have become the norm.

Gandhi said : « Be the change you want to see in the world », and it’s up to each of us to act at our own level to build this New World right now. Let’s stop criticizing everything we don’t like on this Earth: it’s a waste of time and energy!

Let’s put on our glasses of love, and together, let’s be the courageous builders of a better world, more and more in line with the ideal we feel in our hearts, knowing that, as Albert Schweitzer said: « The ideal remains for us what a star is for the sailor. It cannot be reached, but it remains a guide. »
